How to Check an Android App's Developer and Version
How to verify developer identity, release information, and compatibility before installing an Android app.
Before installing any Android app, two checks take thirty seconds and filter out most fakes: who the developer is and what version you're getting. Jobloza is an independent tech guide.
Check the developer
On the Play Store listing, the developer name sits right under the app title. Tap it to see their other apps and contact details. A legitimate developer has a real website, a plausible portfolio, and consistent naming. Red flags: a famous app name published by an unknown developer, or a developer account created last week with a single app.
Check the version and update date
Scroll to "About this app" for the version number and last-updated date. An app untouched for years may have unpatched security issues; a version far behind the developer's announced releases suggests a stale or unofficial listing.
Cross-check outside the store
For popular apps, verify on the developer's official website that the Play Store listing is theirs — fake listings impersonating real apps are common. Never install from links in messages or ads when the official listing is one search away.
