How to Compare Android Apps by Features Instead of Ratings
A structured method for comparing apps without treating ratings as a universal measure of quality.
Star ratings are popularity contests. When choosing between Android apps, compare what they do — feature by feature. Jobloza is an independent tech guide.
List your must-haves first
Write down the 3-4 things the app absolutely must do for you. Everything else is a tiebreaker. An app with 4.8 stars that lacks your one critical feature is worse than a 4.2-star app that has it.
Compare the right dimensions
Features, pricing model (one-time vs. subscription vs. ad-supported), permissions and data collection, offline capability, and the developer's update history. A free app funded by aggressive data collection isn't cheaper than a paid app — you're just paying differently.
Test, don't just read
Install your top two candidates and use each for a few days. Real usage reveals friction that listings hide: clunky navigation, nag screens, battery drain. Uninstall the loser — your phone will thank you.
